Your Life- Part 1
It was a Tuesday night. I saw what is called 'the show' meaning my baby is on the way. I was happy and anxious at the same time because your dad and I had been waiting for you to arrive about 4 weeks earlier, the 'EDD' which was the expected delivery date.
So I went to the bathroom where I noticed a lot more pinkish liquid. I began to put things together to make my way to the hospital.
When we got to the hospital I was tested and was told "You'd have to go back home" because my dilation was still about 2cm.
I was not happy about that news because I was so eager for you to be born! Having waited extra 4 weeks!
Then something happened! The midwife on duty discovered I had a high blood pressure! She decided it was not a good idea to go home after all! I would have to stay back in the hospital.
Things changed quickly!! The blood pressure was not getting better. The labour was not progressing as expected. The midwives were panicking. I was given some anti high blood pressure medicines etc.
I can't remember exactly what happened, since i was half awake and half having contractions, but I was in that condition till Thursday when I was taken into a pre-eclampsia room. The blood pressure was not getting better and the medical team tried to induce me. I think the water was broken at a time as well. Still, no substantial labour progress!
It was Thursday night! Before I knew it, they were planning for an emergency surgery and they needed blood!
My husband was panicking. The high blood pressure was a big concern! The baby was not coming! Time was running out! The medical team had to make a decision! The mother's life to spare, the son to save. The two of them or just one of them! It was a tough decision!
They were going to try to save the two of us but the preference would have to be the mom, me! Arh!
In the morning of Friday, the 21st April 1989, they went to the theater and a bouncing and big baby boy was delivered to my husband and I at about 7:00 am. And that was you Emanuel! :)
Quickly, you were rushed to the intensive unit, son, because you had been distressed struggling to come out. But My little prince was determined to make it!
Meanwhile, I was placed under a heavy prescription to bring my blood pressure down! The medical team was afraid i would go into eclampsia!
I had the pain of the surgery to cope with; the high blood pressure to be brought down and you, our new prince in the intensive unit, to think about! All at once! Alas!
